Modern-Chic Engagement Session at Atlanta's Iconic Swan House

I'm thrilled to take you on a visual journey through Ashley and Jake’s glamorous modern-chic engagement session at the historic Swan House in Atlanta, Georgia. With their wedding slated for next summer, Ashley and Jake chose to celebrate their love story at this iconic landmark, and I'm speechless. It exuded luxury and natural beauty from every angle for an ultra-sophisticated collection of timeless portraits.

The Timeless Elegance of the Swan House

The Swan House, nestled within the expansive Atlanta History Center grounds, is more than just a stunning mansion. Constructed in 1928 and designed by renowned architect Philip Trammell Shutze, it is a masterpiece of classical architecture. Its regal façade, lush gardens, and historic features make it an idyllic backdrop for capturing love stories like Ashley and Jake's.

Stepping onto the grounds feels like time-traveling to a world where elegance, sophistication, and romance rule the scene. Jake and Ashley’s chic, formal outfits perfectly complemented the grandeur of the setting, adding a modern twist to its timeless charm. Their session was a delightful mix of glamor, fun, and a touch of flirtiness – everything an engagement shoot should be!

Picture-Perfect Spots at the Swan House

One of the many reasons why the Swan House is a photographer's dream is the variety of unique photo opportunities it offers. Plus, with over 30 acres to explore, you can pick the backdrops that best fit your vision, style, and aesthetic. Here are some of my favorite spots to take pictures at the Swan House and surrounding areas:

The Mansion

The grand entrance and sweeping staircases leading up to the Swan House give us plenty of opportunities to play with posing and elegant compositions. The entrance is one of my favorite photo locations. With its stately columns and intricate details, the mansion's facade added an element of classic grandeur to Jake & Ashley's photos.

From the classic 1920s Ford and the iconic royal-blue door to the trailing ivy walls, you won't run out of photo ops! It's so much fun to explore, making posing in front of the lens a bit easier.

Boardwalk through the Swan Woods

The boardwalk meandering through the serene Swan Woods offers a gorgeous woodland setting. The dappled sunlight filtering through the trees creates a fairytale ambiance that enhances the romance and intimacy of your session with a dash of adventure. There's lots of wildlife and wildflowers out here, too! It's really a peaceful experience that hardly feels like a photoshoot.

The Gardens

The meticulously landscaped gardens surrounding the mansion are a dream come true for any photographer and couple in love. We strolled through the vibrant greenery and lush lawn, capturing intimate moments amidst the natural beauty. In season, the rhododendrons look almost too pretty to be real.

Instead of a collection of redundant, posed portraits, I want your engagement session to tell a story and authentically represent your chemistry, connection, and personality as a couple. The lawn gave us a fantastic space to do that. Ashely and Jake’s session seamlessly flowed from one part to the next. We began at the mansion entrance and leisurely worked our way around the grounds, capitalizing on the distinct architectural components as we went. Then, we ended their session out on the lawn, barefoot and dancing. It was the perfect fun and flirty way to end our fabulous photoshoot together!

How to Book a swan House Photography Session

If you're considering the Swan House for your engagement, bridal, or wedding photos (and I highly recommend it!), here's a quick guide to help you book this location:

1. Contact the Atlanta History Center

As a private property, all photo shoots must follow the General Admission Photography Guidelines or have a permit from the Private Events Department. To schedule a private photo shoot, contact them at 404-814-4090 or email privateevents@atlantahistorycenter.com at least three weeks in advance. For more details on permit requirements, you can get more information and submit an inquiry here

2. Schedule a Tour

It’s a great idea to schedule a tour to explore the grounds and envision your photo session. This way, you can discuss specific spots and logistics with the staff. (Some areas and historic landmarks are off-limits for photography, so they can tell you more about that as well.)

3. Coordinate with Your Photography & Secure Your Date with the Venue

We can discuss a few available dates and your vision for the session. A collaborative approach ensures that every memorable moment is beautifully captured. Once you’ve decided on a date, secure it with the venue by signing a contract and paying any required fees. Popular times can book up quickly, so it’s best to plan in advance. Weekdays tend to be a little slower if you want to avoid onlookers.

4. Prepare for Your Session

Plan your outfits, hair, makeup props, and any other essentials (I am happy to offer insight and suggestions!). Arrive a bit early on the day of the shoot to allow time for any last-minute preparations.
